At this year‘s EBRD Green Cities Annual Conference in October 2022, mayors, delegations, and Green City Officers from more than 50 cities gathered in Vienna to explore the theme “Make Green A Reality”. The event took place at three different locations, was broadcast live on three channels, and was translated on site and online into four languages. The hybrid event was kicked off in the Wappensaal halls of the Vienna City Hall. A wide-ranging program of lectures, break-out sessions and networking phases spurred the exchange and interaction of the international delegations.

The first day of the conference was wrapped up with a gala dinner in the state rooms of the Albertina Museum. Delegations from Warsaw to Amman and Kirgizstan enjoyed the excellent food, marvelous surroundings, and inspiring company. The locations, rich in history and architectural sophistication, were consciously selected to reflect the City of Vienna with its mix of old and new for many of our first-time visitors.

The second conference day was topped off with a field trip to the third location, Aspern Seestadt, a prototype of a “Green City“. The conference attendees followed an itinerary of five different stations to learn more about the organizations operating in the Seestadt, gaining first-hand insight into the large-scale urban development.
