On December 9, 2016 – the World-Anti-Corruption Day, the inaugural Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani Anti-Corruption Excellence Award ceremony was held at the Hofburg in Vienna.
The award is intended to honour the individuals and organisations, which have made an extraordinary contribution to the prevention of or fight against corruption.
Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations and His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar presented the winners with their awards.

On the same day, a sculpture by Iraqi artist Ahmed Al Bahrani was unveiled in the United Nations Office at Vienna, to mark the award and to stand as a symbol for a fight against corruption.
